Restorative Yoga
Restorative yoga is an extremely gentle and nourishing
class designed to help the yoga student release layers and layers of
tension. After a few gentle stretches, students will be led into a series
of restorative postures. In restorative poses, bolsters (supportive pillows)
and blankets are utilized to support the body so the muscles can relax
completely. Students rest comfortably in each supported pose for several
minutes, witnessing sensations in the body, focusing on the breath and
cleansing the mind. After the series of restorative poses is complete,
students will be led through the practice of yoga nidra (yogic sleep)
which helps to relax and rejuvenate the whole system.
Gentle Yoga
Gentle Yoga is a great choice for people who would like
a little bit of movement and stretching, but in a very gentle and delicate
manner. This class usually incorporates the use of a chair to facilitate
gentle stretching. Gentle Yoga is somewhere between Restorative Yoga
and Gentle Hatha Flow. In Gentle Yoga, however, there are no bolsters
or blankets (as there are in Restorative Yoga) and Sun Salutations will
not be taught (as it is in Gentle Hatha Flow). At the end of the class,
students will be led through the practice of yoga nidra (yogic sleep)
which helps to relax and rejuvenate the whole system. This is a wonderful
choice for people who would like to have a very gentle yoga class.
Gentle Hatha Flow
Gentle Hatha Flow is an excellent choice for beginners
or for seasoned yoga practitioners who prefer a more gentle flow class.
Students will learn a gentle form of Surya Namaskar (the Sun Salutations),
forward bends, backward bends, gentle twists, and some inversions. These
postures will be gentle and they will not be held very long. Poses will
also be introduced to help stretch the neck, shoulders, hips, and low
back. At the end of the class, students will be led through the practice
of yoga nidra (yogic sleep) which helps to relax and rejuvenate the whole
system.
Hatha Flow
Hath Flow is an active class with a focus on deeply
stretching the body to help create more inner spaciousness. More emphasis
is placed on flow than on form, so moving with the breath and witnessing
the sensations in the body will be more of a focus than “doing
the pose right”. During challenging sequences, students are reminded
to release the sense of competition and to accept whatever arises in
the practice at each moment. Students are also reminded to honor the
body and to rest or modify poses as needed. At the end of the class,
students will be led through the practice of yoga nidra (yogic sleep)
which helps to relax and rejuvenate the whole system. Though this class
can be challenging at times, beginners are welcome. |
